Elections

Vote for MO! by Mike KlineThe San Diego Space Society needs you! We’re holding elections for four board members (chapter officers president, treasurer, and secretary have been elected). Each post lasts for one year; see the chapter bylaws for the responsibilities of each office.

How to be a candidate

  1. Become a member of the San Diego Space Society.
  2. (for officers) Join the National Space Society
  3. Nominate yourself (or have someone nominate you) on the SD Space mailing list.
  4. Send a short bio to the mailing list or to elections@sandiegospace.org. (See examples below.)

How to vote in the elections

  1. Become a member of the San Diego Space Society.
  2. Nominate candidates on the SD Space mailing list.
  3. Attend the general election meetings or request an absentee ballot from elections@sandiegospace.org.

Candidates

Board Member

Gerry Williams is a filmmaker with 16 feature films to his credit (as Director of Photography) and he produces corporate/industrial films and commercials. He has a BS degree in physics (nuclear engineering) with a minor in astronomy.

Gerry is also a human spaceflight advocate and is a founding member of The Mars Society - San Diego (TMS-SD). He publishes the MarsMovieGuide.com and hosts both the Mars Society’s monthly Mars Movie Night and the monthly San Diego Sci-Fi Double Features film group.

James Pura is the leader of the UCSD chapter of the Students for the Exploration and Development of Space (SEDS).

David G. Schrunk is an aerospace engineer and medical doctor with specialty ratings in nuclear medicine and diagnostic radiology. He has published scientific articles pertaining to lunar development and is the lead author of the book, “The Moon: Resources, Future Development, and Settlement.” The “Moonbook” describes the steps that can be taken to transform the Moon into an inhabited sister planet of the Earth by the end of the 21st century. Dr. Schrunk also founded the Quality of Laws Institute in 1995 and authored the book, “THE END OF CHAOS: Quality Laws and the Ascendancy of Democracy.” Dr. Schrunk resides in Poway, California, with his wife and two children.

Adrian preping the CitabriaAdrian Clausell has been a resident of San Diego since January 17, 1994 the same date as the Northridge earthquake. He moved to San Diego from Dallas, Texas where he grew-up and obtained a B.S degree in Biology in 1987 from the University of Texas at Dallas and in 1993 received a Ph.D. in Molecular Biology form the U.T. Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas. After moving to San Diego, he worked on the molecular regulation of HIV at the Salk Institute, La Jolla. Beyond spaceflight and all technical areas associated with it, his interests are also in the areas of exo-biology, space communications, electronics and last but not least aviation. In November of 2007, he successfully completed training in the Light Sport category of aircraft and received his Sport pilot license.

Maria CatalinaMaria Catalina is a middle school math and science teacher and NASA Solar System Ambassador. She was nominated for NASA Educator Astronaut in 2003, completed the Honeywell Educator Scholars program at the US Space and Rocket Center in 2007, and took flight on the Zero G Corporation 727 airplane complements of Northrop Grumman Weightless Flights of Discovery for educators in October of 2007.
