XCOR Aerospace is in the business of developing safe, reliable and reusable rocket powered vehicles and other enabling technologies for private space flight, scientific missions, upper atmospheric research, and small satellite launch to low earth orbit.  This month’s talk will describe the highlights of XCOR’s past work, including pictures and videos from rocket engine development and flight test.  An overview of XCOR’s current project – the suborbital Lynx rocketplane – will also be included.

Mark Street has worked as an aerodynamic, structural, and fluid systems engineer at XCOR Aerospace since 2005.  He has contributed to the development and testing of four rocket engines and served as a flight test engineer for the Rocket Racer prototype.

The San Diego Astronomy Association holds monthly program meetings open to the public. Of interest to all the Martians out there, the September program will be presented by Tanya Harrison of Malin Space Science Systems and her topic is “CTX and MARCI—The Other Cameras Aboard the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter.” Tanya currently works on the science operations team for NASA’s Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter (MRO) Context Camera (CTX) and Mars Color Imager (MARCI). SDAA program meetings are held the third Wednesday of every month except December and January, starting at 6:30pm, with the presentation beginning around 7:30pm. The online SDAA Program Meeting information can be found at sdaa.org/Program-Meeting.

Also of interest is the August 18th meeting: “Life Signs in the Solar System,” presented by Jerry Hilburn, a JPL Solar System Ambassador and SDAA member. Jerry is quite a hoot and his presentations are always lively and spirited.

Tripoli San Diego and the Diego Area Rocket Team (DART) are announcing the ninth annual Plaster Blaster. Held in Plaster City, California, a small community 90 miles east of San Diego, Plaster Blaster will be the weekend of November 4-7, 2010.

Plaster Blaster 2010 is a nationally recognized and popular event sanctioned by both the National Association of Rocketry (NAR) and Tripoli Rocketry Association (TRA). The NAR and TRA are national organizations that promote the safe and educational enjoyment of the hobby of sport rocketry and actively set standards for its members. Plaster Blaster is open to the public for spectating.
