The NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory is holding their annual Open House.

This popular event celebrates JPL’s accomplishments with exhibits and demonstrations about the Laboratory’s ongoing research and space exploration. Many of the Lab’s scientists and engineers are on hand to answer questions about how spacecraft are sent to other planets, how scientists utilize space technologies to explore Earth and how researchers are searching for planets beyond the solar system.

The Open House is a fun and educational experience for children too, with special hands-on activities designed for kids. Admission and parking is free.

San Diego Space Society members are planning a trek to Pasadena for the annual JPL Open House. Interested members should email events@sdspace.org to coordinate the rides/carpool/caravan.

SETIcon, envisioned and organized by the SETI Institute, is a unique, entertaining and enlightening public event where science and imagination meet. SETIcon brings together innovative scientists, science fiction authors, space and science artists, space lovers, and the curious and adventurous everywhere for a 3-day public celebration and exploration of space, real science, technology, imagination, and science education.

There is no other event in the world like SETIcon that explores space and the human imagination through the lens of real science, attracting global interest and participation. This is not a science conference with technical lectures (SETI Institute scientists lecture all over the world), nor Comic-Con, or another Star Trek type conventions. SETIcon will create a new channel of discussion between Earthlings where real science and imagination will meet.

The San Diego Space Society and the Space Travelers Emporium are hosting a space art show.

If you are an artist that has space art or are interested in creating space art for the show, contact spacewalk@sandiegospace.org for submission guidelines and further details.

Artists can also donate their work and all proceeds will go towards the Space Travelers Emporium renovation fund and are tax deductible. The San Diego Space Society is a 501c3 non-profit organization.
 

SD Space Directors and key members will attend the annual Strategic Planning Retreat in the beautiful countryside outside of Warner Springs. The Retreat will continue to lay the framework for a 10 year development plan starting with a review of last year’s goals and plans then focusing on the year ahead and the interim five year goals.

We continue to be excited about the future of SD Space and we endeavor to bring new and exciting opportunities to our members and the community at large.

The Mars Society was founded to further the human exploration and settlement of the Red Planet. The International Mars Society Convention presents a unique opportunity for those interested in Mars to come together and discuss the technology, science, social implications, philosophy and a multitude of other aspects of Mars exploration.

Highlights of the convention will include the latest results from the Opportunity, Mars Express, and Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter and Phoenix missions, with the climax being the landing of the Mars Science Lab Curiosity which will be witnessed live on the final evening of the convention. Attendees will also get first-hand reports from the latest mission simulation at the Flashline Mars Arctic Research Station on Devon Island, 900 miles from the North Pole, and the eleventh season of the Mars Desert Research Station.
