7:00 pm to 10:00 pm
The Planetary Society will host a special event to honor Carl Sagan’s legacy and accomplishments.
Longtime friends of Carl Sagan will be on stage to share their stories: Caltech astrophysicist Kip Thorne and Planetary Society Executive Director, Emeritus, Louis Friedman.
Representing Dr. Sagan’s scientific legacy will be a panel of young scientists who, though his writing, he inspired to pursue their careers. Also on stage will be Chas Beichman, the executive director of NExScI, which manages the Carl Sagan Fellowship program that funds exciting exoplanet research.
Clips from Cosmos and other notable videos will be featured on the big screen.
After the main event, everyone is invited to the nearby Mijares restaurant for conversation and an open-mic “Sagan Slam,” where you are invited to read a favorite passage from Sagan’s works or speak about how Sagan influenced you.
It will be a wonderful celebration of the finest and most inspiring science communicator of the 20th century.
