Interested in building something? Get together with other SD Space members to work on space-related projects.
This month’s Saturday build session we’ll continue with our DIY Satellite project.

We started building phase one of the Sky Satellite project in January. We took a page from Make magazine’s
“DIY Space” issue and built our own homebuilt sky satellite and launched the payload to a tethered height. Now phase two we will build and launch an advanced near-space satellite (up to about 100,000′) and hopefully phase three high we’ll build and launch a sub-orbital satellite (up to about 65 miles).
Members and the public are welcome to join the project team, but please sign up by Jan. 14th. RSVP to events@sdspace.org to participate.
Note: We recommend that parents participate with their children; children under 10 must have a parent present for the entire workshop.

The Mars Society San Diego and the San Diego Space Society set up displays near the telescopes. Stop by and say hello, or contact events@sdspace.org if you’re interested in volunteering.

SpaceUp is a space unconference, where participants decide the topics, schedule, and structure of the event. Everyone who attends SpaceUp is encouraged to give a talk, moderate a panel, or start a discussion. Sessions are proposed and scheduled on the day they’re given, which means the usual “hallway conversations” turn into full-fledged topics.
SpaceUp San Diego 2010 was the first SpaceUp ever, and it was awesome. For 2011 we’re making it even better, with full Spacevidcast coverage (and better two-way remote participation), an even comfier venue, and absolutely no refried beans. (That’s our NO BEANS guarantee!)
You will be amazed at what comes out of SpaceUp. Based on past SpaceUps, we expect to see businesses started, problems solved, projects kicked off, plans hatched, and amazing friendships born.
