2011 Board Election
The following candidates have been nominated for the San Diego Space Society board of directors for the 2011 calendar year. SD Space members can vote at the December general meeting, held December 12th, 2010 from 2:30pm to 4:30pm at the Serra Mesa Library. Candidate Biographies
Jesse Clark
Jesse is a graduate of Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and works as a computer systems administrator. He has previously worked for NASA at the Johnson Space Center, Mission Control and for Honeywell on commercial aircraft avionics for programs such as the Boeing 777 and the Bombardier Global Express. He is an avid space enthusiast and space exploration advocate, is a member of The Mars Society – San Diego and the National Space Society and led the charge to form the San Diego chapter of the NSS. He is a pilot, amateur stargazer, eco-advocate and enjoys science fiction films and the great California outdoors. Jesse lives in the North Park area of San Diego.
Scott Olson
Scott, raised in San Diego, is an Airworthiness Engineer at General Atomics Aeronautical Systems. A graduate of Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University with a Bachelor’s of Science in Technical Management, he is currently finishing his thesis for a Masters in Space Studies and Aeronautics. He also holds a degree in history and has worked for the San Diego Historical Society. Scott has loved aircraft and spacecraft all his life; the desire for both human spaceflight and robotic exploration has always excited his imagination.
Kelley Clark
Originally trained in the Air Force in the mid-80′s as a Navigation and Communications Systems Specialist, Kelley has held certifications in Broadcast Television Engineering, fiber optics maintenance, and as a Broadcast Networks Technologist. He has served in many technical capacities over the years on government contracts for NASA and the DoD as a technician, engineer, and operator, including managerial, supervisory and administrational positions in various technical fields. Kelley is an aviator and airplane lover, and began flying at the age of 16 as a cadet in the Civil Air Patrol; he is an avid space enthusiast, and teaches annual solar system and universe classes in a local private school, also advocating human presence in earth orbit and the importance of human emergence in the solar system. Kelley and his wife Lydia live in the Scripps Mesa area of San Diego with their four children.
Adrian Clausell
Adrian has been a resident of San Diego since January 17, 1994 the same date as the Northridge earthquake. He moved to San Diego from Dallas, Texas where he grew-up and obtained a B.S degree in Biology in 1987 from the University of Texas at Dallas and in 1993 received a Ph.D. in Molecular Biology form the U.T. Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas. After moving to San Diego, he worked on the molecular regulation of HIV at the Salk Institute, La Jolla. Beyond spaceflight and all technical areas associated with it, his interests are also in the areas of exo-biology, space communications, electronics and last but not least aviation. In November of 2007, he successfully completed training in the Light Sport category of aircraft and received his Sport pilot license.
Saura Naderi
Saura, a San Diego native, is an Alumna of the Jacobs School of Engineering at UCSD with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering Physics. She founded The myLab Program at Calit2, UCSD, a program dedicated to giving K-16 students practical hands on experience through workshops, internships, and outreach. Saura loves to share her passion for science and inspire those around her by any means possible.
Greg Wagner
Greg Wagner has Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Michigan, and is currently in the process of earning a Ph.D. from the Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering department at UCSD, where he studies, among other things, the mechanics of very small swimming things, like bacteria. At the University of Michigan he was co-founder and president of their chapter of the Students for the Exploration and Development of Space, hosting or co-hosting speakers Loretta Whitesides, Jeffrey Manber, and Anousheh Ansari, and throwing Ann Arbor’s first ever Yuri’s Night. He is passionate about using education and culture to help create a society that cares deeply about space exploration, science, and its technological future. Greg currently lives on campus at UCSD in La Jolla.
Dave Dressler
Dave has worked in education since 1989, and is currently Technology Manager for the San Diego County Regional Occupational Program (ROP). Interested in manned space exploration, inspired by space programs and great works of science fiction, Dave organizes and participates in outreach activities such as conferences, science fairs and speaker sessions. He serves as co-chair of the Maritime STEM Fest. Dave is always looking for ways to bring space science to the community and inspire the next generation of space explorers.
Derek Nye
Derek is currently attending school at Miramar College for certification as an airframe and powerplant mechanic, and then going to a university to pursue a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He is looking to work in the commercial aerospace industry to build rockets, and spacecraft. Derek also writes a blog entitled “D Minus Zero” where he talks about the emerging commercial aerospace industry.
Erik Hall
Erik is an engineering student at San Diego State University. He has been a frequent and active volunteer for SD Space since 2008; he designed and built the air and water rocket launchers for RocketFest, among other SD Space hardware projects.
