October 9 Concert Event Hosted From ISS

While almost always meaningful, in truth benefit concerts are a dime a dozen. What makes Poetic Social Mission Event: Moving Stars and Earth for Water special is the fact that private space explorer Guy Laliberte will be hosting the two-hour event live from the International Space Station (ISS). The worldwide performance, which will be webcast on October 9 starting at 8 PM ET, is scheduled to feature Al Gore, Cirque du Soleil, Peter Gabriel, Shakira and U2, among others, performing at venues across six continents. Laliberte, founder of Cirque du Soleil, will be aboard the ISS as Canada’s first private space explorer, having arrived a week earlier on a Russian Soyuz rocket.
In celebration of Poetic Social Mission Event: Moving Stars and Earth for Water, Yuri’s Night has announced it will be sponsoring a special chat room on the night of October 9 to allow members of the global space community to watch this historic webcast together. To participate, viewers will need to install Microsoft Silverlight and then open the streaming video on onedrop.org. They will then need to open a second window at Yuri’s Night partner Spacevidcast.com to join in on the space world’s discussions of the performance. One lucky viewer will receive a free Yuri’s Night 2010 party pack complete with t-shirt, stickers, temporary tattoos, and other products ideal for hosting a Yuri’s Night event.
