This popular event celebrates JPL’s accomplishments with exhibits and demonstrations about the Laboratory’s ongoing research and space exploration. Many of the Lab’s scientists and engineers are on hand to answer questions about how spacecraft are sent to other planets, how scientists utilize space technologies to explore Earth and how researchers are searching for planets beyond the solar system.
The Open House is a fun and educational experience for children too, with special hands-on activities designed for kids.
Admission and parking is free. Please be advised that they will not have buses to and from the parking lots. There are also no internal bus tours this year. JPL will provide special needs vans for guests with mobility challenges throughout the day.

Get together with other SD Space members to work on space-related projects. This month we’re still recovering from the San Diego Science Festival Expo and Yuri’s Night, but we still have an awesome project to work on.
After the Expo, an anonymous donor gave The Mars Society – San Diego a Traxxas Summit chassis for possible use as a base for the Mars Science Laboratory (MSL) quarter-scale model we’re working on. This thing is huge, and it climbs over pretty much anything in its path, including people!
This and the other Mars rovers need some work in order to be ready for Space Day on May 9th. Please RSVP to events@sdspace.org if you’re interested.

Join SD Space for a special advance screening of the new sci-fi film Battle For Terra:
The film tells the story of Senn (Justin Long) and Mala (Evan Rachel Wood), two rebellious alien teens living on the beautiful planet Terra, a place that promotes peace and tolerance, having long ago rejected war and weapons of mass destruction. But when Terra is invaded by human beings fleeing a civil war and environmental catastrophe, the planet is plunged into chaos. During the upheaval, Mala befriends an injured human pilot (Luke Wilson) and each learns the two races are not so different from one another. Together they must face the terrifying realization that in a world of limited resources, only one of their races is likely to survive.
A limited number of free passes have been given to us to distribute. Please contact events@sdspace.org to reserve yours if you’d like to attend.
