The San Diego Space Society was founded in 2008 with the purpose of raising awareness and educating the general public to the benefits of human exploration of space and San Diego's role in space development, as well as to the idea of creating a spacefaring civilization within our lifetimes.

SD Space meets monthly at the Serra Mesa Branch Library and participates in space-related events around San Diego Country and Southern California. The general public is welcome to attend any meeting listed on this site.

Maria is on her way to Mars

The Mars Society-San Diego and San Diego Space Society member Maria Catalina is on her way to the Mars Society’s Mars Desert Research Station in Utah where she’ll take over as MDRS Crew #80 commander on Sunday for two weeks:

Working on the Mars PodLast Sunday we got a lot of work done. The Mars Pod sections were constructed, the space elevator and climbers were half-completed, and lots of rocket parts were manufactured. We even got featured in the San Diego Union-Tribune. This week we’re going back to complete it all.

Plaster City logoTripoli San Diego and the Diego Area Rocket Team (DART) are announcing the eigth annual Plaster Blaster. Held in Plaster City, California, a small community 90 miles east of San Diego, Plaster Blaster will be the weekend of November 6-8, 2009.

Plaster Blaster 2009 is a nationally recognized and popular event sanctioned by both the National Association of Rocketry (NAR) and Tripoli Rocketry Association (TRA). The NAR and TRA are national organizations that promote the safe and educational enjoyment of the hobby of sport rocketry and actively set standards for its members. Plaster Blaster is open to the public for spectating.

San Diego Science Festival 2009Get together with other SD Space members to work on space-related projects. This month we’re working on displays and hardware for the SD Science Festival Expo. That includes robotics work on the Mars Rovers, the Mars Pod hatch and window, a space elevator climber, water rockets, a water rocket simulation program, and various models, posters, and display pieces.

DART Rocketry Contest

DART rocketsThe Diego Area Rocket Team (DART) is having a rocketry contest. The contest is open to DART members and all NAR members in the Southern California area. NAR membership is required.
